Diddy sentencing hearing slated for early October

  • Diddy was convicted on transportation to engage in prostitution
  • Music mogul could face years in prison
  • Diddy acquitted of sex trafficking and racketeering

Sean “Diddy” Combs’ sentencing hearing has been confirmed for October 3 as prosecutors and defense attorneys came to an agreement on the date during a hearing Tuesday.

They reached the date, which was originally proposed after Comb’s verdict, after briefly postponing it to September earlier in the day.

A jury convicted Combs on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, which has a maximum sentence of ten years in prison.

He was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering and sex trafficking, both of which carry a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Judge Arun Subramanian denied Combs’ request to be released on bond after the split verdict.

The judge said the applicable law didn’t allow for Combs’ release, saying evidence at trial showed the music producer’s “pattern of violence.”

“At trial, the defense conceded the defendant’s violence in his personal relationships, saying it happened with Cassie and ‘Jane,’” he said. “For present purposes, the defendant is unable to meet his burden” to show by clear and convincing evidence a “lack of danger to any person or the community,” Subramanian said.

Combs has been held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest in September last year and will remain there.
